Overview

WatchRoom is a browser extension that helps you identify and shop for products seen in movies and TV shows. We respect your privacy and collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the service.

Data We Collect

  • Video frame screenshots: When you use the click-to-identify feature, a screenshot of the current video frame is sent to our server for AI analysis. These images are processed in real-time and are not stored permanently.
  • Product interaction data: We record which products are clicked and which affiliate links are followed, to improve product recommendations and measure service usage.
  • Local storage: The extension stores your preferences and usage counts locally in your browser using Chrome Storage API. This data never leaves your device.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your browsing history
  • We do not collect personal information (name, email, etc.) unless you provide it
  • We do not track which movies or shows you watch
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties

Affiliate Links

WatchRoom earns commissions through affiliate links to retailers like Amazon, Target, IKEA, and others. When you click a product link, you may be redirected through an affiliate URL. You pay the same price — the retailer pays us a small referral fee. We only link to a curated list of trusted retailers.

AI Processing

Product identification is powered by Claude Vision AI (Anthropic). When you click to identify a product, the video frame is sent to our server, which forwards it to the AI model for analysis. The AI response is used to display product suggestions. We do not store the images after processing.

Permissions

The extension requests access to specific streaming sites (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, Peacock, Apple TV+) to inject the product overlay. It uses the activeTab permission to interact with the current page and storage permission to save your local preferences. No background data collection occurs.
